Paralegal Resume Examples

Free Sample ATS-Optimized Updated 2026

A strong paralegal resume proves you can keep a caseload moving: drafting pleadings, managing e-discovery, and hitting court deadlines without partner hand-holding. Lead with the practice areas you know and the certifications recruiters screen for, then back every claim with a number. To pass ATS, mirror the exact tools and legal terms from the job posting instead of vague phrases like “detail-oriented.”

What makes a strong Paralegal resume?

Litigation and corporate teams hire paralegals who reduce attorney workload, so show the work and the results, not a duty list.

  • Name your practice area. State whether you support litigation, corporate, real estate, immigration, IP, or estate planning; a personal-injury firm filters differently than an M&A team.
  • Quantify the caseload. “Managed 60+ active civil cases” or “e-filed 200+ documents in CM/ECF with zero rejections” beats a paragraph of responsibilities.
  • List the software by name. Recruiters and ATS search for Relativity, Westlaw, Clio, and iManage, not “legal research tools.”
  • Put certifications up top. A NALA CP or NFPA RP credential is a screening filter; don’t bury it at the bottom of the page.

Paralegal resume sections

Header: Name, city/state, phone, email, LinkedIn.
Summary: 2-3 lines naming your practice area, years of experience, and top credential.
Skills: E-discovery, legal research, drafting, docketing, e-filing, and named platforms.
Experience: Firm, title, and dates; bullets with action verbs and case metrics.
Education: Degree plus ABA-approved paralegal certificate.
Certifications/Licenses: NALA Certified Paralegal (CP), NFPA Registered Paralegal (RP/PACE), NALS Professional Paralegal (PP), Notary Public commission.

Common mistakes

  • Writing generic duties (“assisted attorneys”) instead of measurable results and case volume.
  • Omitting the litigation software and e-filing systems the posting requires.
  • Hiding a NALA or NFPA certification, or leaving off your notary commission.
  • Using a two-column or heavily graphic template that ATS parsers scramble.
  • Sending one resume everywhere instead of tailoring keywords to each practice area.
